On the
22 March 2005, The London Ambulance Service UNISON
Branch (LASUB) held their 9th Annual General Meeting
(AGM).
Every member of the branch is invited to attend the AGM
and this year 56 members attended.
'Record Compensation'
Eddie Brand, Chair of the Branch, opened the meeting and
Eric Roberts, Branch Secretary, gave reports on behalf
of the Branch Committee covering the work the Branch had
done in the last year. The Branch Secretary highlighted
the success in achieving £895,000 in compensation for
members in LAS since 1999. Based on the last 6 years it
is expected to reach one million by the end of this
year. This is a significant achievement for the branch
on behalf of it's members. It also shows that their is
still much for us to do to improve
Health & Safety
within the Las. He also thanked the Branch Officers,
Branch Committee, Station Stewards and Health & Safety
representatives for their hard work.

'Elections'
George Achilles was elected to the position of
Branch Treasurer and Sarah Hardy was elected as Branch
Vice Chair. All other branch positions were elected
unopposed.
You can see all the branch here. The Branch
Committee tabled a motion to withdraw the post of
Vice-Chair as it was a seldom used position. After a
debate, the motion was not carried by the two thirds
majority it needed to be agreed.

'Agenda for Change'
The annual meeting debated Agenda for Change after
the Secretary delivered the report. The meeting was
informed of the UNISON representatives on the various
AFC committees and minutes of
project board meetings and bulletins were circulated
showing who sits on the board, members who are trained
in job matching and the new practitioner profiles and a
list of posts that have now been banded. Decisions that
have been taken regarding London Allowance, annual
leave, frozen leave and an interim payment were
discussed. After a lengthy question and answer session
the report was agreed.
'Pensions'
The Branch Secretary and Regional Officer (Phil
Thompson) updated the meeting on the latest information
regarding pensions and the governments plan to increase
the retirement age from 60 to 65. This is of course
completely opposite to our policy which has been for
many years to reduce the retirement age to 55. Members
were urged to respond to the consultation that was
ongoing until the 11th April 2005. The website address

The meeting voted not to allow a motion regarding
balloting for action over the pension issue to be
tabled. The meeting agreed to let the negotiations
between the Union and the Government proceed and to see
the outcome. The meeting felt any other action would be
premature. The Union at national level will be issuing
advice and more information in due course. |
