On 1 July 2003 the LAS Unison Branch launched their own website.
The website had been in the planning stage for many months as the branch
felt it was an important way to communicate directly and quickly with
members. The big benefit to us was the introduction of mess room computers
as this meant that every member now had access to the internet and our
website.
A lot of thought then went in to what content to include on the site and
it was decided we should try and include as much as possible, from minutes
of meetings held throughout the service through to the Branch Rules. We have
tried to make the site as interesting as possible for members and included
sections for updating personal details and of course a joining form for
non-members. The main UNISON website has been an essential source of
information and we have linked to it on many pages.
We also intend publishing an e-mail newsletter on a regular basis which
will form an integral part of our communications with members as we will now
be able to have information delivered directly to members e-mail within
minutes of publication, This represents a huge step forward over the
traditional method of mail outs and is of course much cheaper which is why
we are able to offer members a £50 monthly prize draw.
The site is of course only just born and is very much in it's infancy and
any comments or suggestions that could improve the site are very much
welcomed. |
