Free Software

Software can be very expensive, sometimes costing hundreds of pounds for a single product and you can often find the software starts to cost more money than the actual computer itself. Then of course you end up paying for subscriptions and the inevitable upgrade to the latest version. So we have trawled the internet to find some of the best freeware available.

 Use OpenOffice.org

Open Office
The product is a multi-platform office productivity suite. It includes the key desktop applications, such as a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation manager, and drawing program, with a user interface and feature set similar to other office suites. Sophisticated and flexible, OpenOffice also works transparently with a variety of file formats, including those of Microsoft Office, and the vendor-neutral OpenDocument standard from OASIS.

Adobe Portable Document Format
Invented by Adobe Systems and perfected over 15 years, Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) lets you capture and view robust information — from any application, on any computer system — and share it with anyone around the world. Individuals, businesses, and government agencies everywhere trust and rely on Adobe® PDF to communicate their ideas and vision. All new documents on this site are in PDF format.

Picassa
Picasa is software that helps you instantly find, edit and share all the pictures on your PC. Every time you open Picasa, it automatically locates all your pictures (even ones you forgot you had) and sorts them into visual albums organised by date with folder names you will recognise. You can drag and drop to arrange your albums and make labels to create new groups. Picasa makes sure your pictures are always organised.

Get free anti-virus and anti-spyware

AVG Anti-Virus Free and AVG Anti-Spyware Free is for private, non-commercial, single home computer use only.

Operating Systems
Fed up of Windows? Try Linux, Linux is a computer Operating System and an alternative to MS Windows. If you want to experience Linux without having to erase your current installation, you can try a Live CD.
